Use of Cookies

This site uses Session Cookies, to overcome a potential problem with the Refresh command on your browser. As the URL www.Digiphotographs.com points to a simple frameset, which contains the sites content within another frame, a refresh command on some browsers would force the outer frameset to be refreshed in preference to the current page. This means that any attempt to refresh a page within Digiphotographs.com would result in the Home page be rendered rather than the page you were actually viewing.

To overcome this problem, Digiphotographs.com uses a Session Cookie to keep track of the last page that you viewed. Whenever you hit your browser's Refresh button, or type www.Digiphotographs.com in the Address Bar, you are taken to the site's default page; a simple Redirection page. This page looks for the appropriate Session Cookie on your machine, and promptly redirects you back to you last page you visited. If no Cookie is found on your machine, the Redirection page will simply forward you to the Home page of Digiphotographs.com.

As the Cookie used by Digiphotographs.com is a Session Cookie, your machine will discard it whenever you close down your Browser. As such, no permanent records are kept of your visit by Digiphotographs.com, who cannot in any case identify individuals from your Cookie. If you choose to disable Cookies within you browser, you should still be able to navigate the site without any real problems. You may find however that your Browser's Refresh button does not behave quite as you would expect.

Use of JavaScript

The Cookies and Redirections referred to above are enabled through some simple JavaScript code present in each page of the site. Should you choose to disable JavaScript within your browser, Digiphotographs.com will be unable to keep track of your "Current Page". You will also find that the default (Redirection) page associated with this site will be unable to forward you to other pages, meaning that the Home page will not be presented to you automatically. A link to the Home page can be found on the Redirection page, which may be followed manually by anyone running without JavaScript.

Should you visit a page out with the context of it's parent frameset, a simple JavaScipt call will redirect you to the framed version of the page. This scenario is most likely to occur if you found your way to a page from the Digiphotographs.com site from the results of a search engine query. On a good day, the page redirections should happen quickly enough to appear near instantaneous.

Javascript is also used to select random images for display on pages that don't relate to any one specific gallery. If you have chosen to disable JavaScript, you'll see simply see a default "Scottish Thistle" photograph on these pages.
